The best time of your life lays just outside your comfort zone.
I’ve found that the trick to trying new things is to enjoy every part of it; enjoy the success, enjoy the rush of adrenalin, enjoy the fear and find a way to enjoy the inevitable failure when learning new things.
I always use the example of when I was learning to surf, I love surfing now, I wouldn’t particularly say I’m great at it but I really enjoy it, the feeling of catching a wave (especially when you’re learning) is like nothing else, but one of the reasons I enjoy it so much is that I embrace when I don’t get it right.
When I come crashing off the board because I didn’t catch the wave right, I found a way to enjoy failing at it when I was learning because even when I don’t get it right, the consequence was that I got to enjoy swimming in the ocean.
I believe that is the trick to trying new things, find a way to enjoy failure also, that way even though you’re trying to get it right, it’s also fun when you don’t.
Embrace making a fool of yourself sometimes, embrace taking advice from anyone; a boy, a girl, older or younger. Accept that you are learning something new, you don’t have to be the greatest to ever do it, the aim is to find something new which you find fun to do.
Enjoy failing at trying and you won’t even realise when you get it.
